Mid-Hudson Love In the Name of Christ Update - February 16, 2010

We thank God for his continuing work through Mid-Hudson Love INC. 

Mid-Hudson Love In the Name of Christ defines its geographic service area as the region between the Hudson River and the Taconic Parkway from I-84 to Crum Elbow Road in Hyde Park.  This is the region that our partner churches and our volunteers can comfortably serve, so when we received a call last October from Barbara (not her real name) in Beacon we felt there was little we could do to help her.  One volunteer did take some household and kitchen basics, and we directed Barbara to some local resources she could contact.  But God had a bigger plan!  Prompted by a January 19 article in the Poughkeepsie Journal, Kathy called Mid-Hudson Love In the Name of Christ a few weeks ago offering a lot of furniture from her deceased mother's home in Beacon.  We found volunteers who were willing to spend half a day in Beacon loading furniture on trucks, and we were so blessed to be able to drive right across town and offer a complete, new twin bed to Barbara's daughter who had been sharing a twin bed with her sister for 6 months.  We also took a full bed for Barbara, who had been sleeping on her sofa, a dresser and lots of bedding.  Barbara was thrilled with everything, and Kathy was so happy that at least a portion of her mother's things could stay right there in Beacon.

You Are Invited to our Annual Ministry Celebration on Sunday, March 14, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church (1400 Route 52, Fishkill).  Come and celebrate with us God's faithfulness throughout this year!  Stop in for a short while, or stay for the entire celebration.  Refreshments will be served and tours of the Love INC Personal Care Items Pantry (located at Our Savior Lutheran Church) will be conducted throughout the afternoon.  We will have our annual meeting at 4:00 p.m. and volunteer training at 4:45.  Please join us and bring a personal care item and/or brown paper grocery bags to donate to our pantry.   

Mark Your Calendars! The Mid-Hudson Love INC Second Annual Cookie Walk is coming!  On Saturday, March 27, we will be offering beautiful home-made cookies for a suggested donation of $8 per pound from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (or while supplies last) at Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church (2381 New Hackensack Road, Poughkeepsie).  Come and buy Easter Sweets for your family, neighbors and colleagues.  Invite your friends and spread then news!  We will also need many bakers and helpers for this event.  If you are willing to bake cookies or to help with the sale (Friday night set-up, Saturday sale and clean-up), please email ann.derwin@mhlinc.org or go to www.mid-hudsonloveinc.org for further information.  

One of our goals for 2010 is to communicate well with our partner churches.  In early February, liaisons from all 13 of our partner churches met with our Executive Director to talk about how we can better mobilize the Church to transform lives and communities In the Name of Christ.  If you are a member of a partner church, you should soon be hearing more from your church liaison about how you can join in ministry with Mid-Hudson Love INC.
