There are three levels to the Love INC model, and each affiliate has the opportunity to minister to people in need on all three levels. Each level goes deeper in fulfilling Love INC’s mission to mobilize the Church to transform lives and communities In the Name of Christ.
Level One: The Clearinghouse Model is the foundation of all Love INC affiliates and includes the basic steps below:
- Receive request for help. Love INC receives requests for help by telephone from churches and pastors, agencies, individuals and families.
- Assess the need. Specially trained Love INC volunteers or staff screen the request for extent of need and legitimacy, and discover any deeper issues fueling the crisis. Love INC determines what help the client has already received from agencies or churches, and ensures the need is manageable and specific.
- Refer to help. The request is referred to the most appropriate Love INC partner church, agency, or faith-based organization and the need is met.
- Follow up. Love INC reviews the outcome. Was the immediate need met? Is there a core issue that requires longer-term attention? The follow-up also provides an opportunity for the recipient to become connected to a local church if he or she so desires.
Level Two: Many Love INC affiliates have taken the model to Level Two, theRelational Ministry Model. This level trains and links church members with individuals and families in need on a long-term basis to provide mentoring, goal setting, skill training, and spiritual and emotional support. Affiliates must have an established, effective Clearinghouse for at least one year before requesting training in the Relational Ministry Model.
Level Three: In Level Three, the Comprehensive Community Development Model, Love INCs go even further to meet the needs of their communities by addressing the deeper issues that contribute to poverty and hopelessness such as lack of affordable housing, employment opportunities, day care, and other community-wide issues.
What is Love INC?
A: Love In the Name of Christ is a proven outreach model that helps churches help people in need. It is one of the most effective management, mobilization, and networking tools available to churches today.
Using the Love INC model, local churches come together as a network. It’s a cooperative effort that makes a lasting impact on individuals, families, and children in need.
Why do communities need Love INC?
A: Private and government agencies provide many services, but they by no means meet today’s growing demand of needs. Love INC’s network of resources, skills, and volunteers helps close the gaps. More disadvantaged individuals are rebuilding their lives while costing communities less, thanks to Love INC.
Why do churches need Love INC?
A: Jesus gave us the great commandment to love one another. Love INC helps churches turn that love into action. Many people never find an appropriate place to serve within their church. Love INC uses all the skills and talents a congregation has to offer. Time and again, Love INC volunteers tell how this type of service to others enriches and changes their life.
Why does Love INC work?
A: There is an untapped army of volunteers in local churches who are ready, willing, and able to build relationships with those in need. Love INC gives volunteers safe, manageable, and specific opportunities to put their Christian faith and love to work.
How does Love INC work?
A: Love INC takes a “clearinghouse” approach. All resources and calls for help are funneled through the local Clearinghouse. Here requests are screened and matched with the most appropriate source for help.
Who benefits from Love INC?
A: People in need are provided with supportive relationships and sources for help. Local churches organize to more fully minister to their congregations and neighborhoods.
Can a single church start a Love INC network?
A: A local Love INC network is just that—a network. After nearly 30 years of use by churches across the country, this feature continues to be Love INC’s key to success. We know a network (local, regional, and national) of resources and collaboration works best. To form a Love INC in your community, a minimum of six churches of six different denominations must agree to work together. Contact the Love INC National Headquarters to discuss ways of involving other churches in your area.
Do churches with differing doctrines participate in the same network?
A: Yes. As a matter of fact, Love INC currently has over 60 Christian denominations participating nationwide. Do you believe God calls your church to minister to the poor in your community? Are there individuals in your congregation who want to be involved in ministry? Churches that answer yes to these basic questions are on common ground. And that’s enough to begin a successful collaboration.
