Helping Churches Help People

Mid-Hudson Love In the Name of Christ Update February 18, 2017

THANK YOU to all who contributed to our successful COOKIE WALK this year.  Over 100 bakers donated 624 dozen cookies.  The selection of cookies was truly amazing!  Donations received for boxed cookies totaled $4267!  Sweet success!  Thank you to Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church for hosting the event again this year.  The location, parking and kitchen/fellowship hall is just perfect for the Cookie Walk.  Thank you also to Patricia Owen, Coordinator of the 9th Annual Cookie Walk, and her fantastic crew of bakers and volunteers.  We appreciate all the bakers, volunteers and buyers from across the region.

THANK YOU to Bob Cohen for his years of service as head of our furniture ministry.  Bob has stepped down, and we welcome Eileen Doherty as the new head of this ministry.  Eileen has been busy learning the computer skills and coordinating drivers to provide furniture to our neighbors in need.  Additional volunteers are needed to make initial Site Visits and to help with deliveries.  We especially need volunteers with access to a truck.  If you can help, please contact Eileen at exparad@aol.com.

Several of our Gap Ministries have specific needs at this time.  Can you help?

  • Linens – washcloths, dishtowels, full and queen blankets – deliver to Immanuel Church, 253 Myers Corners Road, Wappingers Falls on Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.
  • Personal Care – laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, hair conditioner, dishwashing liquid – deliver to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1400 Route 52, Fishkill on Tuesdays (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.), Wednesdays (11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.), Thursdays (8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.), or Fridays (9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.).
  • Furniture – couches, dressers, nightstands, small TV stands, end tables, kitchen tables and chairs – contact 471-0102, #2 or furniture@mhlinc.org.

We continue to offer Relational Ministry classes to our clients and have been receiving lots of good feedback.  “I don’t want this class to end.”  “I really enjoyed the Building Hope classes.  The ladies were wonderful.  I met so many nice people.”  “Yes!  Now I am ready to join a church Bible study on my own.”  We offered three classes in January and February –  our introductory Building Hope class, a Spiritual Exploration class based on the book of John, and a support group for our neighbors coping with deep grief and loss.

It takes many volunteers to present these weekly classes – transporting clients to and from class, calling clients weekly, welcoming and coordinating logistics, teaching, and participating in the class as a friendly and encouraging LINC volunteer. To find out how you can get involved in this exciting ministry, join the next LINC Volunteer Training on Tuesdays, March 7 and 21 at 6:30 p.m. at New Beginnings Church (35 DeGarmo Road, Poughkeepsie).  For more information or to RSVP, contact Volunteer Coordinator Jewel Ratzlaff at Jewel.Ratzlaff@gmail.com or 896-4126.

“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for His is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care.”  ~ Psalm 95:6-7
